Atlanta group to adopt classroom at Frome High
THE Atlanta Jamaican Association is to adopt a classroom at the Frome High School in Westmoreland.
The official announcement will be made during the Association’s August 7 Annual Independence and Emancipation Ball at the Georgia International Convention Centre in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout the evening, four scholarships will also be presented.
According to chairperson of the Association’s education committee, Jo-Ann McNish, two of the awards would be presented to two Jamaican students attending colleges in the United States and the other would go to a student of Jamaican parentage residing in Atlanta. The fourth award will go to a high school alumni association in Atlanta, which will be given to a student of that institution in Jamaica. The awards will be presented by Jamaican-born Beverly Hall, superintendent of the Atlanta school district.
Another highlight of the Independence and Emancipation Ball will be the presentation of four special awards to Air Jamaica, Victoria Mutual Building Society, Kool Runnings Restaurant and Royal Caribbean Bakery. Jamaica’s Honorary Consul, Vin Martin, will receive the association’s lifetime membership award.
The guest speaker for the event will be host of Independent Talk on Power 106 FM Ronnie Thwaites.
The event is being sponsored by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Victoria Mutual Building Society, Grace Kennedy and Air Jamaica.
