3 Ways to Fix iPhone Screen Black and White Issue

Quick Tips
  • Open Settings and tap on Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters > turn off the toggle.
  • Go to Accessibility settings and tap on Zoom > Zoom Filter > select None.
  • Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. Wait for the reset process to finish, then check again.

Basic Fixes:

  • Connect to a charger: If your device has low battery levels, it might automatically switch to the Grayscale setting to extend battery life. To ensure this is not the case, connect to a charger and wait before checking again.
  • Restart your iPhone: Restarting your device usually resolves any temporary issues or glitches that might have occurred while turning any service or feature on or off. You can also do this if you’ve already turned off Grayscale, but your device’s screen is still black and white.
  • Check for software updates: If your iPhone screen has turned black and white due to a bug or glitch in your device’s software, you can fix it by installing the latest updates.
  • Ensure there is no physical damage: Physical damage can cause your iPhone’s screen to turn black and white. If there is any visible damage, book an appointment with Apple or visit the nearest Apple service center to have your device checked.

Fix 1: Turn off Grayscale

If your iPhone’s screen has turned black and white, the first thing to do is to check the Accessibility settings for Grayscale. It is a feature for people with color blindness and other visual impairments. And if it is turned on, disable it to remove the iPhone from black-and-white mode. Follow the below steps to do it.

Step 1: Open Settings and tap on Accessibility. Here, tap on Display & Text Size.

Open Accessibility Settings

Step 2: Tap on Color Filters and turn off the toggle for Color Filters.

2. Disable Grayscale in Zoom

The Zoom settings on your iPhone help you zoom in on specific objects, magnify the screen, and much more. However, if the Zoom Filter is set to Grayscale, it might turn your iPhone’s screen black and white whenever it is enabled. In this case, disable Grayscale from Zoom settings on your iPhone. Here’s how.

Step 1: Open SettingsAccessibility. Here, tap on Zoom.

Fix 3: Reset All Settings

As a last resort for fixing iPhone’s black and white screen, use the Reset All Settings option. This will allow you to reset all iPhone settings to default and might fix the issue if it’s caused by errant settings. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Open Settings and tap on General. Here, tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone.
